Materials matter

The choice of materials that go into garments is hugely important. Whether it makes up 100%, or 5%, we want you to have all the information you need on an individual material’s origins, environmental impact and durability.

Here’s what to look out for in our product descriptions to help your decision making:

- Certified materials – meaning a confirmed standard of care for both people and the planet.
- Recycled materials – rather than virgin materials that create more waste.
- Durable materials – meaning a garment that will last you through the years.

We’re excited to be using many new materials that have come out of technological innovations in recent years. For more information on any of the materials used in our clothing, you can refer to our material guide.

There are many decisions that go into the making of each and every Holzweiler item, so why wouldn’t we also empower your decision-making? We want to give you this information as a requirement, not an afterthought.

Care & Repair

One aspect of reducing the environmental impact of the fashion industry that we think is too often pushed aside is what happens once that purchase gets to its new home. If we are committed to making quality items, then we should also help our customers look after those items long-term.

That’s because by caring for our garments properly, we can reduce overall textile waste. There are small things we can all do to increase the lifetime of our favourite items – even if we obsessively wear them every day.

Right now, you can read our care tips to get the lowdown on caring for every kind of material properly. Of course, unless you pack away your clothes and never let them see the light of day, items will inevitably get damaged. We’ve also made how-to films with easier-than-you-think repair tips; or, we would encourage you to take any of our items to a tailors if you need a little help.

You can even pop in-store with your injured item, and any of our staff would be happy to suggest a good solution. We believe customer service doesn’t end at the till.

Transparent Supply Chains

Truly measuring our impact means tracking supply chains. It’s only when we know each stage intimately that we can see where and what action to take. We want to always work within those limits that still allow us to safeguard the planet, and protect animals and people.

We do this through good relationships with our suppliers, who have all accepted our policy and code of conduct as standard. Then, we use the TrusTrace platform to map the supply chain: each supplier’s ethics, environmental code and treatment of people is considered in our report.

We’ve started this process and, though we are at the beginning of this long-term goal, we want to share the information with you at the same time as we are gathering it. So, if you want to see who made your garments, you need simply click through from each item on our webshop through to the factory information.

And by 2022, you’ll be able to see more information on fabric and yarn suppliers too.

By familiarising both ourselves and you with the supply chain – that’s how we improve. Our commitment to transparency is all about a reconsideration of the information our customers need to know – not what they might previously have been presumed to want to ignore. We want to arm you with all the information as and when we have it, so nobody’s out of the loop.

Re-sale & Rental

We are rethinking our approach to the clothes we wear – including the very idea of newness. Real fashion fans know that the thrill of the new is found in second-hand items – whether thrifted, or borrowed from a friend for the night – just as much as those that are box-fresh. But why shouldn’t there be an option in the middle?

We have launched a space to buy and sell Holzweiler items in a whole new way. Holzweiler Re-vive is our new re-sale platform: a digital home for selling used Holzweiler garments, and a must-visit destination for buying them.

The life cycle of any Holzweiler item shouldn’t end with its first wearer. With our new platform, we want to breathe new life into all of our garments by providing a space for re-sale, recycling, and, ultimately, the revival of our customers’ well-loved Holzweiler items.

If you’re Norway-based, you can also rent Holzweiler items with our partners at Fjong.com. The same offer is available in the US through Rent The Runway – try it out next time you need an outfit refresh.
