Holzweiler Future: Care & Repair

We encourage the Holzweiler Community to implement a practice of care and repair when it comes to their garments

At Holzweiler we’re excited to be amping up our practices for a more sustainable future. But we also believe that authentic approaches to being responsible call for a more traditional outlook, as well as technological tools. Looking back to move forward into a future world, we’re encouraging the Holzweiler community to implement a practice of care and repair when it comes to their garments.

People didn’t always just throw away their clothes and buy new items as soon as they started looking raggedy. But a day-to-day existence spent staring at a laptop, or holding our smartphones above our head in bed, has left us less than nimble-fingered when it comes to repairing clothes. (No need to be embarrassed – outside of the design team, most of the staff at Holzweiler HQ are scared of needles and threads, too).

As we go into a new season at Holzweiler, we wanted to remind you all that your oldest garments can get a total refresh without much effort. On site, the fabric composition of our garments will now give super-clear instructions on the best way to look after your new look (case in point: please don’t bung that wool jumper in the washing machine). And our just-launched new Care & Repair series gives simple instructions for different mending hacks, like fastening a button, fixing holes on your winter puffa, removing that annoying pilling from a jumper, and repairing a hole on a sweater. Even better, you can do all the repairs with tools you probably have lying around the house.

Another thing our parents (and their parents) have always done without thinking: alterations. Too often, we buy an item online, realise it doesn’t quite fit right, wear it a couple of times out, until gradually it accrues more and more resentment and is never looked at again.

Join us in-store for an alteration consultation, instead. If you bring in a Holzweiler item, we can chat about how you’d like it altered, and arrange for one of our tailoring partners to do the work. We’ll even ship your refreshed garment back to you when it’s ready, wherever you are, so you don’t have to make the same trip twice.

Caring properly for our clothes is one aspect of driving forward sustainability that rarely gets discussed. If we did, maybe not so many of them would end up on the landfill. At Holzweiler, we’re focussed on sharing our Care & Repair how-tos and consultations in order to give your pieces a new lust for life. You could say we’ve been inspired by our nanas.
